Sail on, Sailor

Today, we lost a true hero and one of the kindest, most loving people.
This morning, Louis “Kayo” Erwin Sr. passed away peacefully at home with his son, Kayo Erwin Jr. and daughter Sandy Erwin. He was 93-years-old.

He was known to many around Erwin Marine Sales and Chickamauga Marina and was always quick with a smile and a kind word.
Mr. Erwin survived one of the most tragic events in American Naval history with bravery and courage. He loved telling his story and sharing first-hand with those who wanted to learn more about his survival of the historic event. But if there was one thing he could pass along to others, it was the importance of grasping the moment with happiness and a smile. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
The family will be accepting friends for visitation at the Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN on Monday, June 11, from 2-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, June 12,  from 2-4 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12that Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel.
Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

“Sail on Sailor into your unaccompanied tour,
we salute you.
What greater honor, when a man moves forward,
he leaves behind in each of us
the best of what he was.
Those of us who remain behind
will continue to remember,
because he now resides forever in our hearts.”*
